Whether and how media influence people have been an enduring problem in society with long-lasting disputes. Born in the context of claimed usefulness of media, cognitive approaches to media start from attempting to reconstruct the “magic-bullet” effect of media, extend to the investigation of media entertainment, and form specificity in solving the real world problem of human-computer interaction. This talk will briefly cover the aforementioned topics and conclude with future development we aim at and challenge we face.
