I am an environmental studies scholar focusing on education. Ten years ago when I was an earth scientist, I recognized that shifting our mainstream culture (particularly the dominant concept of selfhood) would be critical for achieving sustainability. I now believe that psychology can help materialize this cultural shift. Today, I first explain how humans have been failing in achieving sustainability and why a cultural shift can be a key for sustainability. I will then demonstrate how psychology can help mainstream policies for a cultural shift in this real world. In doing so, I would like to invite you to discuss what research programs are needed to catalyze a cultural shift for greater sustainability. I am looking forward to learning from you.
