When you look out the window on a sunny day, what do you see? If you read the textbooks for perceptual psychology, the answers would appear to be some visual features, such as color, motion, and shape. However, it is apparent that your visual impressions are typically much richer than that. For example, a scene of sunshine through trees gives rise to a sense of beauty, movements of grass depicts a breeze, and a strolling wanderer appears to be pleased. Do we see these features, or do we think of them? In this talk, I will share my works on how visual processing automatically extracts the impressions of beauty, causality, and social intention. I invite all of you to explore with me how "smart" human vision is.
