2014.11.05 (Wed) 09:30 Dr. Elizabeth Stine-Morrow -- Engagement as a Paradigm for Successful Aging

  • Date: 2014.11.05 (Wed) 09:30
  • Venue: N100, North Hall, Department of Psychology
  • Speaker: Dr. Elizabeth Stine-Morrow (Beckman Institute & Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
  • Topic: Engagement as a Paradigm for Successful Aging

Cognitive aging is marked by normative declines in certain areas, referred to as “fluid abilities” or “mental mechanics.” At the same time, there is tremendous variation among individuals such that many maintain excellent cognitive health at least into very late adulthood.  The pathways to such cognitive resilience are not well understood. The focus of this talk is on the ways in which engagement may promote successful aging.
