According to the APA Manual, writers of literature reviews must “…evaluate a body of literature by identifying relations, contradictions, gaps, and inconsistencies in the literature and by suggesting the next step needed to solve the research problem.” That’s a lot of information to synthesize! Indeed, the challenges of writing a literature review largely consist in the difficulty of organizing, synthesizing and criticizing these complex relations.
