PCIT: Evolution of the Research
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based behavioral parent training program originally designed for children with disruptive behavior disorders and their mothers. In this theoretically based treatment, parents are coached as they play with their child in two distinct interactions designed to improve parental responsiveness and child management skills. This presentation will describe the treatment and the evolution of its research base as it has progressed in several directions from the earliest demonstrations of efficacy for behavior change within the family to its effects on children’s behaviors in diverse diagnostic and cultural groups.
